Attended the IPMI awards dinner Thursday night! It was a wonderful evening and all of the winning pieces were absolutely stunning.
I’m so grateful that IPMI offers this competition. It gives students the opportunity to use precious metals that they may not have the chance to otherwise. They also award prize money. I am putting my winnings toward new tools and into my grad school piggy bank!

If you happen to go on Rio Grande’s facebook this week you’ll notice one of my rings is their new cover photo!
They were asking people to send in images of the first piece of jewelry they had ever made. This was my first jewelry piece from my intro class; a ring that fits over three fingers.
“Revolutions” is a ring made out of copper and nickel with two cabochons set in it, one green and one yellow. The ring can be flipped and worn with either showing. It also opens up.
Very exciting!

Just got this delicious 3x6 slice of heaven. No choice but to invest in silver while it’s cheap and whenI know I have money coming in!

Look at this gem! It’s a picture taken in the old forging room before it died a fiery death. (RIP)
I’m trying to remember what I could’ve possibly been making…the little tendril I’m working on leads me to believe it was the Filter For The Human Psyche piece.

I haven’t been able to feel ‘finished’ with the Deoxyribonucleic Acid Storage and Examination System piece for nearly a year. Even after some serious cleanup I kept feeling as though some major element was missing.
A lightbulb went off and I started toying with constructing a test tube holder that would be a part of this piece. The test tube holder will hold other test tubes that will include other biological samples from me! I’m pumped up about this addition and I plan to finish it by Wednesday so it can be entered in the senior exhibition.
I keep joking that this piece will never be finished…ten years from now I’ll have a room dedicated to it and all the pieces I keep adding haha.

I typed up some tags for my series of specimen rings!
Can’t wait to display them at Scintilla later this month!

What do crazy metalsmiths like me do when they come into a bit of money? Apparently the answer is to stock up on silver…and gold….
Silver is ridiculously cheap right now so I knew I wanted to grab an assortment of that. I also splurged on 6 inches each of 21 gauge 14K yellow gold and 22 gauge 14K pink gold.
I’m excited to play around and make some jewelry to sell over the summer!

Late night at the studio! I managed to put the final touches on my Deoxyribonucleic Acid Storage and Examination System!
At my side throughout this endeavor was none other than the fantastic Vee Hight. She put together a gorgeous spoon!
We were proud so we decided to excitedly snap some photos but my camera would only cooperate for one decent picture. (Must invest in more batteries….)
After getting so much done last night I felt refreshed and inspired this morning! I started tinkering with the idea of adding a few other elements to the DNA System.
Could it be…am I still not finished….only time will tell….
